| Kozlova Zaseka |
The name of Kozlova Zaseka appeared in the 14 th century. Zaseka means abatis forest. In old days when the town of Tula was situated on the very southern edge of the Moscow State abatis forests served to defend it from enemy raids. Kozlova Zaseka was named after the local voivode Ivan Kozlov (a voivode was a commander of an army and governor of a province in medieval Russia). In 1868, when the railway between Moscow and Kursk was constructed, the same name was given to the small station, the nearest to Yasnaya Polyana.
In 1928, the year of Tolstoy’s centenary, the station was named Yasnaya Polyana. In 2001 it was given back its historic name and restored as it was in the time of Leo Tolstoy. The exhibition Railway of Leo Tolstoy can be seen in the old station building.
There is a souvenir shop and a café at the station.
