The English Park is associated with the writer’s mother. In old days rowan-trees, fir trees, lilac bushes and other shrubs were grown here, and also cherries and apple trees. The park was decorated with a cascade of three ponds, surrounded by beds of roses… Here Tolstoy’s mother would plant, rosebushes, hazels, decorative shrubs, and silver poplars. These huge splendid trees are still growing…
