An expert on Tolstoy’s pedagogy, Irina has taught at Yasnaya Polyana for 15 years. She designs educational programs for all ages and presents a children’s series in the estate kindergarten. She is knowledgeable about Russian language and literature and enjoys writing concepts for exhibitions. Irina’s engaging lectures touch the emotions and present facts in fascinating ways.


Vera Fedorina
Vera is the curator of Yasnaya Polyana’s non-memorial collection. She selects museum pieces from Tolstoy’s time to illustrate lectures. These may be an infant’s baptismal clothing, family photographs, or even artifacts from the battlefield of Borodino described in War and Peace. Vera’s interactive approach brings 19 th-century Russian culture and scenes vividly to life.


Irina Kostyukova
Head of the Yasnaya Polyana Memorial Forest , Irina leads tours in the estate’s beautiful forests and orchards. She brings visitors close to nature, helping them understand Tolstoy more deeply as they discover his intimate relationship with the natural world. Drawing on her knowledge, intuition, and experience, Irina interprets Tolstoy’s life on the country estate with insight and sensitivity.


Nina Gorkovenko
Dressed in peasant costume to welcome guests as hostess of the Coachman’s House, or performing traditional music with a folklore group, Nina conveys the spirit of peasant life. A native of the village, she passes on the teachings of her grandmother. You may find her showing how a Russian stove was used or driving an old cart to the meadow, bringing refreshments to those mowing the field.


Elena Petrova
In the International Relations office of Yasnaya Polyana, Elena is the coordinator of the Educational Tourism program. She has organized numerous tours, tailoring each one to accommodate visitors’ interests, needs, and schedules. She often accompanies groups during lectures and activities throughout the estate, and translates programs for English speaking guests. Elena would be delighted to help you plan your visit.
